Welcome to The Punch Line. My name is Tom Attwater, and I’m a filmmaker based in Missoula, MT.

This film is about more than adventure—it’s about resilience, identity, and the search for connection. In 2015, David Roberts solo rafted the Grand Canyon with just one paddle, filming the entire journey on a GoPro. Now, in 2025, we’re revisiting his past, capturing his evolution from river runner to stand-up comedian.

Through scenes filmed in Montana and Idaho, including his favorite whitewater on the Lochsa River, we explore the challenges of mental illness, the isolation of solo adventure, and the unexpected power of humor. David’s journey proves that whether you’re navigating rapids or a comedy stage, finding your flow is what matters most.
